Dr. Gary Fogel Provides Lecture at 2009 IEEE Conference on the History of Technical Societies

Philadelphia, PA - Dr. Gary Fogel, CEO of Natural Selection, Inc., provided a lecture at the 2009 IEEE Conference on the History of Technical Societies. The meeting was organized by the IEEE History Committee and the IEEE History Center to commemorate the 125th anniversary of the IEEE. The purpose of the conference was to "explore the history of technical societies, which, through meetings, publications, education, and other activities, have been vital to the technological advance of the past century" over a three day meeting from August 5-7

Dr. Fogel's lecture on the "History of the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society" focused on the growth of the three main disciplines of computational intelligence (neural networks, fuzzy systems, and evolutionary computation) and the steps that led to the formation of the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society. Dr. Fogel currently serves as the Chair of the IEEE CIS History Subcommittee and is interested in preserving the history of science.

"It was my pleasure to represent the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society at this historic meeting, and also to learn more about the diverse history of other societies within the IEEE," Dr. Fogel said.
