John V. Kew II, Staff Scientist III: Mr. Kew joined NSI after completing his B.S. in Computer Science at Cal Poly State Polytechnic University, San Luis Obispo in 2004.

He has worked for Cal Poly Applied Research and Development Facilities and Activities (ARDFA) developing Automatic Vehicle Tracking (AVT) devices
for San Luis Obispo Transit and CalTrans. At ARDFA Mr. Kew also worked on the Cal Poly Traffic Management Center simulator for CalTrans/CHP and a flight metering research project for NASA. Mr. Kew has also worked as a network administrator for the City of
Pismo Beach through The Pinnacle Group of San Luis Obispo. In 2001, Mr. Kew started the company MyNetAdmin with two partners from Cal Poly and Berkeley, which developed network design and auditing tools for office environments.

His research interests involve information sharing strategies in competitive environments. Mr. Kew uses evolutionary computing (EC) as a vehicle to simulate a changing knowledge base and also uses EC to evolve various sharing strategies to use within that space. This has applications in patent law or management (among others), where a manager might organize two distinct teams to solve the same problem, citing diversity as a major goal. Mr. Kew uses game theory to formalize the problem.

Mr. Kew is currently working on software for combat mission planning.
