Vincent William (Bill) Porto, President. Mr. Porto has two decades of experience in the areas of signal processing, pattern recognition, and more
recently agent-based combat simulations. He received the B.A. in mathematics and has completed requirements for the M.A. in applied mathematics at the University of California at San Diego. He previously worked in the areas of ocean surveillance and ground motion modeling at ORINCON Corporation (1981-1995) and Del Mar Technical Associates (1980-1981), respectively. He joined Natural Selection, Inc. in 1995.

Mr. Porto's research interests include evolutionary programming, signal processing, neural networks, and optimization theory. His most recent research has involved applying evolutionary programming to materials process automation and strategic resource allocation problems wherein conventional methods have provided inadequate solutions.

Mr. Porto has served on the Office of Naval Research advisory panel for neural networks, and is a charter officer of the Evolutionary Programming Society. He served as general chairman for EP98, the seventh annual conference on evolutionary programming. He was on the organizing committees for the 1988 and 1989 IJCNN conferences, and served as tutorials co-chair for OCEANS' 95. Mr. Porto is a member of the editorial board for the IOP/Oxford Press Handbooks for Neural Computation and Evolutionary Computation and is an associate editor for the IEEE Transactions on Evolutionary Computation.
