Gary B. Fogel and V. William Porto Publish Article on Composite Transcription Factor Binding Site Discovery in Nucleic Acids Research

San Diego, CA -- Dr. Gary B. Fogel, Chief Executive Officer and Vincent W. Porto, President of Natural Selection, Inc., in collaboration with researchers at Eli Lilly & Co. (Indianapolis, IN) have published a paper titled "Evolutionary computation for discovery of composite transcription factor binding sites" in the journal Nucleic Acids Research (NAR) (doi: 10.1093/nar/gkn738). This new research highlights the several improvements to an evolutionary algorithm for transcription factor binding site discovery that allows detection of transcription factor binding sites of different sizes and complexity, some having experimental relationships with NFAT/AP-1. The article also indicates the importance of parameter tuning for transcription factor binding site discovery algorithms, especially those that make use of evolutionary optimization.
