Dr. David Fogel Receives Honorary Doctorate from the University of Pretoria

Pretoria, South Africa – Dr. David Fogel, CEO of Natural Selection, Inc., was recognized by the University of Pretoria's Engineering Department with a honorary doctorate today. Dr. Fogel received the degree Doctorae Philsophie (honoris causa) for his years of contributions to the field of computational intelligence with special emphasis on evolutionary computation, as well as his active role within the IEEE leading the advance of these fields in engineering. Dr. Fogel presented the opening address at the graduation ceremony for the Faculties of Natural & Agricultural Sciences, and of Engineering, Built Environment & Information Technology.

"I'm deeply appreciative of this honor, for which I thank not only the university, but also my colleagues, friends, and mentors who have given me so much in my career," said Dr. Fogel. "And I'm all the more thrilled about having the opportunity to receive this honorary degree in the 100th-year anniversary of the University of Pretoria. It's exciting to see the development of a substantive core group of researchers in computational intelligence being established at the university under the direction of Professor Andries Engelbrecht. I expect big things to come from their efforts in the future."
