Natural Selection, Inc. Represented at 2008 IEEE World Congress on Computational Intelligence
Hong Kong -- Dr. David Fogel, CEO of Natural Selection, Inc., presented a plenary lecture at the 2008 IEEE World Congress on Computational Intelligence this morning. The Congress is the largest meeting of the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society. Held every other year, it brings together the annual meetings of the International Joint Conference on Neural Networsk, the IEEE International Conference on Fuzzy Systems, and the IEEE Congress on Evolutionary Computation. Dr. Fogel's lecture "The Burden of Proof: Part II" addressed the importance of developing standards of evidence for making conclusions about complex adaptive systems, including coevolutionary games, such as the hawk-dove game and the El Farol game, as well as addressing the nature of optimality in animal behavior models. Specifically, Dr. Fogel highlighted potential problems with the misuse of expectation and equilibrium in complex adaptive systems. The lecture was published as part of a book of plenary and special lectures for the Congress, published by Springer. Dr. Gary Fogel, Vice President of Natural Selection, Inc., also attended and presented a paper "Quantitative Structure-Property Relationships for Drug Solubility Prediction Using Evolved Neural Networks" co-authored with Mr. Mars Cheung (Staff Scientist, NSI) and two researchers at Southwestern College as part of the IEEE Congress on Evolutionary Computation, and was a participant on a panel on Bioinformatics and Bioengineering and a second panel on IEEE Computational Intelligence Society Publications.
Natural Selection, Inc. was founded in 1993 to address complex problems in industry, medicine, and defense. The company possesses unique expertise in computational intelligence techniques, including evolutionary computation, neural networks, and fuzzy logic. The corporation's research efforts support the discovery of new pharmaceuticals, the automated detection and discovery of important patterns and processes in bioinformatics and medical informatics, computer-assisted diagnosis, and a variety of military and industrial projects.
