Dr. Gary B. Fogel Gives Keynote Lecture at 2007 the 2nd IAPR Workshop on Pattern Recognition in Bioinformatics (PRIB 2007)

Singapore - Dr. Gary Fogel, Vice President of Natural Selection, Inc., today presented an invited keynote lecture at the 2007 Workshop on Pattern Recognition in Bioinformatics (PRIB 2007) http://www.ntu.edu.sg/sce/prib/prib07/. The workshop brought together researchers, practitioners, and students from around the world to discuss applications of pattern recognition methods for problem solving in the life sciences. Dr. Fogel’s lecture, titled "Computational Intelligence Approaches for Pattern Discovery in Biological Systems," provided a survey of computational intelligence methods for genome annotation, RNA structure analysis, and model optimization. The meeting was held at the Grand Plaza Park Hotel, in Singapore .

"The PRIB meeting had a very diverse audience of computer scientists, mathematicians, engineers, and biologists, and this lecture helped to encourage others to consider using evolutionary algorithms, neural networks, fuzzy systems, and any combination for pattern recognition. I look forward to additional effort in these areas at future PRIB meetings,” said Dr. Fogel.

The 2007 Workshop on Pattern Recognition in Bioinformatics was sponsored by the International Association for Pattern Recognition (IAPR), and organized by members of the IAPR Technical Committee-20 (TC-20) of which Dr. Gary Fogel is a member. Additional information on TC-20 can be found at http://www.ntu.edu.sg/home/asjagath/iapr-tc20/.
