Dr. Gary B. Fogel Gives Keynote Lecture and Tutorial at 2007 IEEE Congress on Evolutionary Computation

Singapore - Dr. Gary Fogel, Vice President of Natural Selection, Inc., today presented an invited keynote lecture at the 2007 IEEE Congress on Evolutionary Computation. His lecture, titled "Medical Applications of Evolutionary Computation," reviewed a wide range of applications including discovery and pattern recognition in the areas of cancer diagnostics, image analysis, chemotherapy scheduling, and drug discovery.

"I always enjoy giving a talk like this at the Congress on Evolutionary Computation, so that the computer scientists in the audience can appreciate that these approaches can have a direct impact on human health and so that biologists can better understand the tremendous possibilities with evolutionary optimization. I especially want to thank the organizers of the conference for giving me this opportunity to encourage growth in this direction,” said Dr. Fogel.

The 2007 IEEE Congress on Evolutionary Computation set a new record with over 1100 submissions. Dr. Fogel’s keynote lecture followed a tutorial on “Evolutionary Computation in Bioinformatics” co-presented with Dr. Kay Wiese of Simon Fraser University , Vancouver , B.C. The tutorial provided basic background information as a primer for computer scientists interested in solving biological problems. The Congress on Evolutionary Computation is sponsored by the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society, along with the Evolutionary Programming Society, and the Institute of Engineering and Technology.
