Dr. Gary Fogel Guest Edits Special Section of IEEE/ACM Transactions on Computational Biology and Bioinformatics

San Diego, CA – Dr. Gary Fogel, Vice President of Natural Selection, Inc., has guest edited a special issue of the IEEE/ACM Transactions on Computational Biology and Bioinformatics focusing on computational intelligence approaches in computational biology and bioinformatics. The special section, co-edited by Dr. Jagath C. Rajapakse of Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, and Dr. Yan-Qing Zhang of Georgia State University, includes 10 peer-reviewed papers submitted from an international representation of researchers and practitioners. The papers cover diverse topics including application of computational intelligence methods for gene expression analysis, memetic algorithms for drug therapy optimization, and a broad survey of multiobjective optimization applications in bioinformatics. The editorial remarks and papers of the special section are available for download to IEEE members at:

"I'm extremely pleased with the final product of this special section," said Dr. Fogel. "Fifty-one papers were submitted for this special issue and the extensive review process helped to generate the resulting high quality publications that will introduce the breadth of computational intelligence methods to a new audience."

The special section grew out of the annual IEEE Symposium on Computational Intelligence in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology, sponsored by the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society. Dr. Fogel and Dr. Rajapakse also serve as associate editors for the IEEE/ACM Transactions on Computational Biology and Bioinformatics.
