Dr. David Fogel Presents Keynote Lecture at 2007 IEEE International Conference on Knowledge Intensive Multi-Agent Systems
Boston, MA Dr. David Fogel, President and CEO of Natural Selection, Inc., presented the keynote lecture at the 2007 IEEE International Conference on Knowledge Intensive Multi-Agent Systems today in Waltham, MA. The meeting, which is sponsored by the IEEE Boston Section, and held in conjunction with the 2007 Knowledge Systems for Coalition Operations meeting, focuses on distributed agent systems, modeling, cognitive architectures, and biologically inspired self-organizing webs. Dr. Fogel’s lecture, titled “Inferences and Assumptions about Complex Adaptive Systems” highlighted the importance of understanding the effects of assumptions on models of complex adaptive systems and the inferences that result. “I greatly appreciate the opportunity to present some case studies in how models that are supposedly simple and well-understood can present a surprisingly diverse and unanticipated range of behaviors,” said Dr. Fogel, who continued: “The results I have identified show, among several things, the importance of using individual-based models in complex adaptive systems, instead of models that treat conditions only on the average. The implications from these examples range from models of biology to models of warfare.”
