Dr. David Fogel Elected Next President of the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society

Vancouver, Canada - Dr. David Fogel, CEO of Natural Selection, Inc., was elected the next president of the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society today. He takes the office of president-elect in 2007 and president in 2008-2009. The IEEE Computational Intelligence Society is one of over 40 societies in the IEEE, the world's largest group of professional engineers with more than 350,000 members internationally. The IEEE Computational Intelligence Society (formerly the IEEE Neural Networks Society and IEEE Neural Networks Council) covers areas involved with mimicking biological systems for problem solving, including artificial neural networks, fuzzy systems, evolutionary computation, agent-based systems, and other technologies. The society has over 5300 members and sponsors numerous conferences and publications, including its premier IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks, IEEE Transactions on Fuzzy Systems, and IEEE Transactions on Evolutionary Computation.

"It's been my great pleasure and privilege to be part of this organization for 13 years," said Dr. Fogel, who started working with the IEEE Neural Networks Council in 1993. Dr. Fogel's contributions to the society include serving as the founding editor-in-chief of the IEEE Transactions on Evolutionary Computation (1996-2002), the general chairman of the 2002 IEEE World Congress on Computational Intelligence (May 5-9, 2002, Honolulu, Hawaii), and more recently as vice president of publications (2003-2004) and members activities (2005-2006). "My goal is to continue to ensure that the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society sets a gold standard for research and development in machine intelligence all around the globe," said Dr. Fogel. Dr. Fogel is an IEEE Fellow and recipient of the 2004 IEEE Kiyo Tomiyasu Technical Field Award, among other recognitions.

Natural Selection, Inc. was founded in 1993 to address complex problems in industry, medicine, and defense. The company possesses unique expertise in computational intelligence techniques, including evolutionary computation, neural networks, and fuzzy logic. The corporation's research efforts support the discovery of new pharmaceuticals, the automated detection and discovery of important patterns and processes in bioinformatics and medical informatics, computer-assisted diagnosis, and a variety of military and industrial projects.
