Vice President of Natural Selection to Join UCSD Extension Bioinformatics Advisory Board
La Jolla, CA - Dr. Gary Fogel, Vice President of Natural Selection, Inc., will join the Bioinformatics Advisory Board for University of California, San Diego's Extension program to assist in the review of their courses and material.
"The bioinformatics certificate program at UCSD has been an important asset to our community and contributes to the continued growth of the local biotech industry. Given the importance of biotechnology to San Diego's economy, I am pleased to have the opportunity to support the professional development of practitioners of this exciting field," said Dr. Fogel. Dr. Fogel continues to lead Natural Selection Inc.'s efforts in bioinformatics, and is a pioneer in applying computational intelligence technologies to bioinformatics problems, including gene expression analysis, gene recognition, drug activity prediction, RNA structure analysis, sequence alignment, and biomedical pattern recognition.
The Bioinformatics certificate program falls under UCSD Extension's Life Science portfolio, which also includes programs in Biotech Manufacturing, Drug Discovery, ADME, QA/QC, and Regulatory Affairs. UCSD Extension offers over 2,000 courses annually and has been contributing to the education of San Diego's population for forty years. The Bioinformatics Advisory Board expects to be involved in evaluating and redeveloping the program over the coming year in order to better meet the needs of the bioinformatics community.
