Inaugural Issue of the IEEE Computational Intelligence Magazine Features Articles from Natural Selection Inc. Personnel

La Jolla, CA – Natural Selection, Inc. is pleased to announce that the inaugural edition of the IEEE Computational Intelligence Magazine features articles from Dr. David Fogel, CEO, and Dr. Gary B. Fogel, Vice President. The IEEE Computational Intelligence Magazine is the flagship publication of the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society (CIS) and replaces the three-year-old CIS newsletter, IEEE conneCtIonS. Its peer-reviewed articles will explore advances in computational intelligence techniques and applications, communicate information regarding upcoming conferences and events, and provide other articles of interest to the Society, including tutorials and book reviews.

Dr. Gary Fogel’s article, “Deciphering Mechanisms of Gene Regulation Through Evolutionary Computation,” tours recent advances in applications of computational intelligence techniques to understanding the interactions of RNA and proteins in the body, including microarray analysis of gene expression and mRNA structure identification. He concludes that new discoveries that emerge from these applications may result in more accurate diagnoses of diseases.

Dr. David Fogel contributed to the magazine by providing this issue’s Historical Perspective column. “Nils Barricelli – Artificial Life, Coevolution, Self-Adaptation,” discusses the contributions that Barricelli, a pioneer in evolutionary computation, made to the field. Dr. Fogel’s technical notes explain Barricelli’s insight into coevolution and self-adaptive strategies.
