Dr. David Fogel Guest Edits Special Issue of IEEE Transactions on Evolutionary Computation
La Jolla, CA Dr. David Fogel, CEO of Natural Selection, Inc., has guest edited a special issue of the IEEE Transactions on Evolutionary Computation focusing on evolutionary computation and games. The special issue, co-edited by Prof. Alan Blair of University of New South Wales, Sydney, and Prof. Risto Miikkulainen, University of Texas at Austin, includes 14 peer-reviewed papers submitted from an international representation of researchers and practitioners. The papers cover diverse topics including evolutionary computing for agent-based characters in games, understanding dynamics in the iterated prisoner's dilemma, and theoretical contributions on evolutionary game theory and coevolutionary free lunches. "I'm extremely pleased with the final product of this special issue," said Dr. Fogel. "I believe this is the largest single issue in the history of the transactions, which signifies the growing importance of evolutionary computing in gaming technology, and the quality of the papers is routinely very high." The special issue grew out of special sessions organized at the 2003 and 2004 Congresses on Evolutionary Computation, co-sponsored by the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society, the IEE, and the Evolutionary Programming Society, and also the 2005 IEEE Symposium on Computational Intelligence and Games. The IEEE Transactions on Evolutionary Computation has historically had the highest circulation with the most publications and highest impact factor annually among evolutionary computation journals. Dr. Fogel served as the founding editor-in-chief of the publication from 1997 to 2002.
Natural Selection, Inc. was founded in 1993 to address complex problems in industry, medicine, and defense. The company possesses unique expertise in computational intelligence techniques, including evolutionary computation, neural networks, and fuzzy logic. The corporation's research efforts support the discovery of new pharmaceuticals, the automated detection and discovery of important patterns and processes in bioinformatics and medical informatics, computer-assisted diagnosis, and a variety of military and industrial projects.
