Dr. David Fogel Opens 2005 IEEE International Conference on Computational Intelligence for Homeland Security and Personal Safety
Orlando, FL Dr. David Fogel, CEO of Natural Selection, Inc., opened the 2005 IEEE International Conference on Computational Intelligence for Homeland Security and Personal Safety today. The conference is being held at the Lake Buena Vista Best Western Hotel in Orlando, Florida. Dr. Fogel serves as General Co-Chairman, along with Prof. Vincenzo Piuri of the University of Milan, Italy. The meeting, sponsored by the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society, is the second in the series. The inaugural meeting was held last year in Venice, Italy. "This conference offers an opportunity for researchers and practitioners who are investigating the use of computational intelligence methods in homeland security and other related activities to come together and share their knowledge and experience," said Dr. Fogel. The conference includes original research on computational intelligence methods, including neural networks, fuzzy systems, and evolutionary computation, for addressing diverse problems such as biometric security, surveillance analysis, at-sea mine detection, and robots swarms for autonomous rescue operations. "Computational intelligence methods offer perhaps the best tools to address many of the vexing challenges in homeland security," said Dr. Fogel. "It's my pleasure to again serve as co-chair of this event and see the advances that are being made."
Natural Selection, Inc. was founded in 1993 to address complex problems in industry, medicine, and defense. The company possesses unique expertise in computational intelligence techniques, including evolutionary computation, neural networks, and fuzzy logic. The corporation's research efforts support the discovery of new pharmaceuticals, the automated detection and discovery of important patterns and processes in bioinformatics and medical informatics, computer-assisted diagnosis, and a variety of military and industrial projects.
