Dr. David Fogel Participates in the 10th Annual National Academy of Engineering's Frontiers of Engineering Conference

Irvine, CA – Dr. David Fogel, CEO of Natural Selection, Inc., was one of 100 emerging engineering leaders invited to participate in the 10th National Academy of Engineering: Frontiers of Engineering Conference, held at the National Academies' Arnold and Mabel Beckman Center in Irvine, California, Sept. 9-11, 2004. As described by the National Academy of Engineering, the event, held annually since 1995, brings together "the best 30- to 45-year-old engineering professionals in industry, academia, and government for a 3-day meeting to discuss leading-edge developments and opportunities in a unique forum that offers them new perspectives and insights." The meeting covered diverse topics, including engineering in extreme environments, designer materials, multiscale modeling, and engineering and entertainment.

"I was honored to be included in this event," said Dr. Fogel, "and it provided a wonderful opportunity to look into current and future engineering challenges, such as autonomous robotic missions and crafting realistic artificial images for films or virtual reality simulations. Many of these challenges require solving difficult nonlinear optimization problems, and our computational intelligence methods and expertise can be applied to meet these challenges. I look forward to pursuing several potential applications with the other participants."
