Natural Selection, Inc.’s Blondie24 Technology Featured in IEEE Computer Magazine
La Jolla, CA – The June 2003 issue of IEEE Computer Magazine, which is sent to all members of the IEEE Computer Society, features an article written by Dr. David Fogel , CEO of Natural Selection, Inc.® on the application of evolutionary computation to entertainment software. The article, titled “Evolutionary Entertainment with Intelligent Agents,” is featured in the magazine’s Entertainment Computing section, edited by Michael Macedonia of the Georgia Tech Research Institute. Dr. Fogel reviews the potential for improving characters in games by combining evolutionary computing with artificial neural networks, and highlights Natural Selection, Inc.’s Blondie24 project, in which this combination of technologies provided the basis for a computer to teach itself to play checkers at a level on par with human experts. Blondie24 is on display at the Boston Museum of Science, and is marketed to the public by Natural Selection, Inc.’s sister company, Digenetics, Inc.
