Dr. David Fogel Receives San Diego Sigma Xi Award for Distinguished Achievement

San Diego, CA – Dr. David Fogel, CEO of Natural Selection, Inc.^®, was recognized by the San Diego Chapter of Sigma Xi with their Award for Distinguished Achievement at their annual meeting held at the University of San Diego. The award recognized Dr. Fogel’s record of scientific achievement, publication, and communication of science to the general public. The award is given in the form of a silver medallion, with icons representing a diverse array of scientific activities, including astronomy, aeronautics, biology, engineering, and oceanography. Sigma Xi is an internationally known honor society for scientific research, and has sponsored numerous gatherings of Nobel Prize winners, as well as publishing the scientific magazine American Scientist. “I’m extremely pleased to receive this recognition,” said Dr. Fogel. “It’s a pleasure to be involved with Sigma Xi, which encourages a collegial spirit among those involved in all areas of scientific endeavors.” Dr. Fogel presented the dinner talk at the annual meeting, describing his research on Blondie24, the program that taught itself to play checkers at a level on par with human experts. Dr. Fogel received the Sigma Xi 2002 Southwest Regional Young Investigator Award.
