Dr. David Fogel Presents Six Invited Lectures in Australia

Melbourne, Australia – Dr. David Fogel, CEO of Natural Selection, Inc.®, has completed his final presentation on a six-talk IEEE distinguished lecture tour of Australia. Dr. Fogel’s lectures were sponsored in part by the IEEE and the Institution of Engineers, Australia (IEAust). Dr. Fogel presented two lectures each in Brisbane, Canberra, and Melbourne covering the theory and use of evolutionary computation to address real-world problems in medicine, industry, and games. Dr. Fogel presented a public symposium in Canberra, Australia’s capital, at the National Museum of Australia, in which a packed room of attendees participated by playing against Blondie24, the evolutionary program that taught itself to play checkers at a level on par with human experts. In addition, ABC News from Australia presented a radio interview with Dr. Fogel on March 24, 2003. The interview can be heard by clicking here.

Dr. Fogel commented: “I’m extremely pleased to have had the opportunity to make these presentations at the Queensland University of Technology, the Australian Defense Force Academy, and the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, among others, and I’d like to thank the organizers in each of the cities who facilitated my travels. It’s great to see such a public interest in science and technology here, and a real tribute to the scientists here in Australia and their role in advancing efforts in computational intelligence. I’m looking forward to returning later this year for the 2003 Congress on Evolutionary Computation, which will be held in Canberra in early December.”
