Natural Selection, Inc.® Publishes Biochemical Application of Evolutionary Algorithms in BioSystems

La Jolla, CA -- Dana Landavazo, staff scientist, Dr. Gary B. Fogel, senior staff scientist, and Dr. David B. Fogel, chief executive officer of Natural Selection, Inc., have published a paper titled "Quantitative structure-activity relationship by evolved neural networks for the inhibition of dihydrofolate reductase by pyrimidines" in the journal BioSystems (Vol. 65:37-47). This new research indicates a potential advance in the application of evolved neural networks for the development of better structure-activity relationship models. Results indicated that the performance of evolved neural networks for developing statistical models relating drug structure to activity can outperform classical neural network training methods such as backpropagation.
