Natural Selection, Inc. Publishes Advance in Evolutionary Algorithms in BioSystems

La Jolla, CA -- Dr. David Fogel, chief executive officer, and Dr. Gary Fogel, senior staff scientist, have just published a paper titled "Multiple-vector self-adaptation in evolutionary algorithms" in the journal BioSystems (Vol. 61:2-3, pp. 155-162). The paper is co-authored with Japanese researcher Kazuhiro Ohkura of Kobe University. This new research indicates a potential advance in the ability of evolutionary algorithms for optimization. Traditional methods of evolutionary algorithms include a provision for having solutions self-adapt their search of a problem space. In the new method, each solution has a set of candidate strategies and these evolve along with their higher-level solutions. Results on benchmark functions show the potential of this technique, which is easy to program and does not appear to increase run-time performance significantly.
