Dr. David Fogel Lectures at University of Hawaii at Manoa on Evolutionary Computation for Real-World Problem Solving
Honolulu, HI -- Dr. David Fogel, chief executive officer of Natural Selection, Inc.®, lectured on the campus of the University of Hawaii at Manoa in Honolulu, Hawaii today. His talk, titled "Evolutionary Computation: Darwinian Thinking Solves Real-World Problems," highlighted the many aspects of problem solving that can be addressed by evolutionary algorithms and offered specific examples in routing and planning, pattern recognition, and entertainment software. Attendees were invited to test their skills against "Blondie24," the computer program developed by Dr. Fogel and Kumar Chellapilla, senior staff scientist at Natural Selection Inc.® , that taught itself how to play checkers, evolving itself into an expert. For more information on Blondie24, please click here to find Dr. Fogel's new book "Blondie24: Playing at the Edge of AI" or visit www.digenetics.com to learn about becoming a beta-tester for Digenetics, Inc.'s new game "Evolutionary Checkers starring Blondie24."
Dr. Fogel also discussed the plans for the upcoming 2002 IEEE World Congress on Computational Intelligence, the combination of the 2002 International Joint Conference on Neural Networks, the 2002 IEEE International Conference on Fuzzy Systems, and the 2002 Congress on Evolutionary Computation, which will be held here in Honolulu, HI, May 12-17, 2002. Dr. Fogel serves as general chairman for this combined event, which is held once every four years and is sponsored this time by the IEEE Neural Networks Council, the International Neural Network Society, the IEE, and the Evolutionary Programming Society.
