Dr. David Fogel Holds Blondie24 Book Signing at Borders Bookstore in Torrance, CA

Torrance, CA -- Dr. David Fogel, chief executive officer of Natural Selection, Inc.^Ò , held a book signing today at the Borders bookstore in Torrance, CA for his new book, Blondie24: Playing at the Edge of AI, published by Morgan Kaufmann Publishers, Inc. Attendees had the opportunity to purchase signed copies of Dr. Fogel’s new book and also challenge Blondie24 in head-to-head competition. In addition, Dr. Fogel pledged to donate $1 for each book that the bookshop sells through the month of October to the Red Cross. At least 10 people tried their hands at beating Blondie24, with their games being projected for all attendees to watch. Dr. Fogel will next appear at the Borders bookstore in Seattle, WA on Nov. 15, 2001 at 7:00 p.m. Blondie24 is an evolutionary program that taught itself to play checkers at a level that’s competitive with human experts. Blondie24 relies on artificial neural networks to interpret patterns on the checkerboard and choose which move to make in any given situation.
