Natural Selection, Inc.Ò Takes Leading Role In Public Symposium: "Evolution in the Computer Age" Presented at UCLA, April 13, 2001

La Jolla, CA - The Center for the Study of Evolution and the Origin of Life (CSEOL) at UCLA will sponsor their 12th Annual Symposium on April 13, 2001. The theme of this year's symposium is "Evolution in the Computer Age," and it is co-chaired by Dr. David Fogel and Dr. Gary Fogel of Natural Selection, IncÒ. The symposium offers a non-technical presentation of technical concepts from world-class scientists. The program includes presentations by Nobel Laureate Prof. Walter Gilbert (Harvard University), Prof. Walter Fitch (Univ. California at Irvine), Prof. Michael Foote (University of Chicago), Prof. Nicholas Gessler (UCLA), Prof. Hans Moravec (Carnegie-Mellon University), and Dr. Lawrence Fogel, president of Natural Selection, Inc. The topics include the impact of bioinformatics, predicting new strains of influenza virus, computer models of paleobiology and cultural evolution, the future of robots and humans, and the opportunity for creating machine intelligence through evolutionary computation. The symposium is open to the public and admission is free.
