Dr. David Fogel Gives Plenary Lecture at IEEE Neural Networks and Signal Processing Workshop

Sydney, Australia - Dr. David Fogel, executive vice president and chief scientist of Natural Selection, Inc.^Ò, gave the plenary lecture today at the 10th IEEE Workshop on Neural Networks and Signal Processing, held at the University of Sydney. The workshop, which drew over 100 participants, covers all areas of signal processing with neural networks, with a strong emphasis on image processing and multimedia applications. Dr. Fogel's lecture, titled "Evolving Models for Signal Processing," highlighted the use of evolutionary algorithms in optimizing models for predicting time series and classification. Much of his lecture was drawn from his new book, Evolutionary Computation: Principles and Practice for Signal Processing, published by SPIE Press (Bellingham, WA, 2000). "I appreciated the opportunity to introduce the concepts that underlie the application of evolutionary algorithms to signal processing to this audience," said Dr. Fogel. "The feedback was very supportive and I'm hopeful that we'll see more efforts to evolve models in image processing and other signal processing applications come as a result."
