Dr. David Fogel of NSI is special guest on "These Days"

San Diego, CA - Dr. David Fogel, executive vice president and chief scientist of Natural Selection, Inc.Ò, was a special guest on the KPBS radio program "These Days" this morning. The show aired from 10:00 am to 11:00 am and was hosted by Tom Fudge. Dr. Fogel discussed recent advances in using evolutionary algorithms to achieve artificial intelligence, in particular, focusing on efforts that he has worked on in collaboration with Kumar Chellapilla where a computer has taught itself to play expert-level checkers. Mr. Chellapilla is a senior staff scientist at Natural Selection, Inc.Ò

Also joining in the radio program was Professor Jordan Pollack, associate professor at Brandeis University. Dr. Pollack spoke about his efforts to have computers learn to evolve robots, which appeared recently in the journal Nature.
