Online World Soft Computing Conference Closes, Most Successful Yet
La Jolla, CA - The 5th Online World Soft Computing Conference closed yesterday and by all measures was a significant success. Dr. David Fogel, executive vice president and chief scientist of Natural Selection, Inc.Ò, served as the honorary chairman of the event. Dr. Seppo Ovaska, the general chair, remarked that the online meeting brought 1600 visits to the conference pages, with 322 registered participants from around the world. Over 50% of the participants were from Europe. Soft computing incorporates techniques of neural, fuzzy, and evolutionary computation, as well as probabilistic reasoning, to solve difficult problems in industry, medicine, and defense. "I'm very pleased to see such interest in soft computing, and in having online interaction among scientific colleagues," said Dr. Fogel. "I expect that in the future we'll be having many more symposia that incorporate an online component for technical exchange."
Natural Selection, Inc.Ò was founded in 1993 to address complex problems in industry, medicine, and defense. The company possesses unique expertise in computational intelligence techniques, including evolutionary computation, neural networks, and fuzzy logic. The corporation's research efforts support the discovery of new pharmaceuticals, the automated detection and diagnosis of breast cancer from film-screen mammograms, optical character recognition, and a variety of military and industrial projects.
