Dr. David Fogel Publishes New Book on Evolutionary Computation
and Signal Processing
La Jolla, CA - Dr. David Fogel, executive vice president and chief
scientist of Natural Selection, Inc.Ò , is pleased to announce that his new book "Evolutionary Computation: Principles and Practice for Signal Processing" is now available from SPIE Press. The book describes the practical application of evolutionary algorithms to problems in time series analysis, system identification, online control, pattern recognition, clustering, and other aspects of signal processing. It also provides a chapter on the use of fitness distributions to help design improved evolutionary algorithms for real-world problems. The book is based on the material provided in the numerous short courses that Dr. Fogel has given at the SPIE conferences in Orlando, FL and San Diego, CA since 1993. "Dr. Pete Angeline and I offer a two-part short course on evolutionary computation each year that usually attracts a dozen or more people from many different areas of engineering, sensor design, and intelligent systems analysis. This book is intended to provide a useful source of information for people who are looking to apply evolutionary algorithms to real problems." The book is available from the Society of Photonics and Instrumentation Engineers at www.spie.org and lists for $44.00.
Dr. Pete Angeline, senior staff scientist of Natural Selection, Inc.Ò , will be one of the co-chairs for the Symposium on Computational Intelligence, to be held next April 16-20, 2000 in Orlando, FL, sponsored by the SPIE. For more information on the meeting, please contact him at angeline@natural-selection.com.
Natural Selection, Inc.Ò was founded in 1993 to address complex problems in industry, medicine, and defense. The company possesses unique expertise in computational intelligence techniques, including evolutionary computation, neural networks, and fuzzy logic. The corporation's research efforts support the discovery of new pharmaceuticals, the automated detection and diagnosis of breast cancer from film-screen mammograms, optical character recognition, and a variety of military and industrial projects.
