2000 IEEE Symposium on Combinations of Evolutionary Computation and Neural Networks Opens in San Antonio, TX

San Antonio, TX - Dr. David Fogel, executive vice president and chief scientist of Natural Selection, Inc.^Ò , opened the first IEEE Symposium on Combinations of Evolutionary Computation and Neural Networks today. Dr. Fogel serves as the technical chair of the symposium, which is sponsored by the IEEE Neural Networks Council and the Center for Excellence in Evolutionary Computation, a non-profit organization founded by Dr. Lawrence J. Fogel. The symposium features 29 contributions from around the world that focus on the synergy between evolutionary algorithms and neural networks. Professor Michael Conrad, from Wayne State University, offered the keynote lecture. Dr. Conrad is a pioneer in applying combinations of evolution and neural computation, having worked in these areas for 30 years. Dr. Peter Angeline and Mr. Kumar Chellapilla, senior staff scientists of Natural Selection, Inc.®, also served on the program committee for the meeting. The proceedings of the conference will be available in September, 2000.
