Dr. David Fogel Featured on "Inside Medicine" Radio Show
La Jolla, CA: Dr. David Fogel, executive vice president and chief scientist of Natural Selection, Inc., was the featured guest today on the one-hour radio program "Inside Medicine," hosted by Bob Ryan and Brett Dudl on KCEO AM 1000. Dr. Fogel discussed Natural Selection, Inc.'s efforts to develop computer-assisted mammography using evolutionary computation and artificial neural networks. Breast cancer is a leading cause of death in women, with over 180,000 new cases diagnosed annually in the United States alone. Under funding from the U.S. Army*, Natural Selection, Inc. recently completed preliminary research indicating the potential for small neural networks to properly classify important image features in mammograms. Interim results were published in the medical journal Cancer Letters, Oct. 28, 1997.
